ESSAY DUE THURSDAY, JANUARY 12
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What is a hero? (You may refer to the notes from our class discussion or return to websites like www.quotegarden.com or www.brainyquote.com for assistance). • Why is my selected figure a hero? • How was my hero impacted by the zeitgeist or the context of the times in which he or she was living? In other words, what historical events and how did what was going on in society affect the person’s struggles/achievements? • What lasting impact did your hero leave on society?

MLA CITATION MAKER DIRECTIONS:
http://www.citationmachine.net/mla/cite-a-book/edit
- Go to website. Select type of text you are citing: book, website, article, etc. Hit search. Make sure you are using MLA FORMAT.
- Choose correct text when your search is generated.
- Add as many fields as possible. Most likely, author and publisher will already be filled in. You may have to fill in city, state, number of pages (for book). Info is at the front of the book on copyright page. Year of publication will probably be included already for books. If not add. Once you have generated an entry, hit copy and paste to a document.
- When citing a website, make sure you click on website. Copy and paste URL address-hyperlink. Hit search and it will come up with what you are looking for. Many internet articles will not have author. Include if it does. Date of website was published will be at the top or the bottom of the home page.
- Make sure you have at least four resources used including one offline one.

CYBERBULLYING PROJECT & BULLYING SCRAPBOOKS:
HOW CAN WE ADDRESS THE SOCIAL ISSUE OF CYBERBULLYING BY EDUCATING OTHERS AND CREATING PRODUCTS TO SHARE OUR PASSION & KNOWLEDGE ON THE ISSUES?
We will create products that deal with bullying and cyberbullying and create an original product that reflects our knowledge and creativity about these important social issues.
PART ONE:
Cyberbullying-Fractured fairytale: Goldilocks and the Cyber Parents: Interactive read aloud: http://www.stopcyberbullying.org/parents/Goldilocks.pdf
http://www.stopcyberbullying.org/kids/index.html
For more info: http://www.stopbullying.gov/cyberbullying/

Cute videos: http://www.netsmartz.org/NetSmartzKids
REQUIRED: CYBERBULLYING PACKET: You will read, summarize and respond to at least five articles about this topic including this one (USE CORNELL NOTE TEMPLATE TO ASSIST YOU):

FOUR DOUBLE-SIDED JOURNAL ENTRIES HANDWRITTEN OR ONE AND A HALF PAGE 12 SIZE FONT TYPED PAGES THAT INCLUDE PERSONAL REFLECTIONS OF YOUR REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES WITH BULLYING AND CYBERBULLYING. MAKE SURE YOU CAREFULLY EXPLAIN THE EXPERIENCES. THIS MAY ALSO INCLUDE TEXT TO WORLD, TEXT TO TEXT, TEXT TO MOVIE CONNECTIONS. (They may be entries you already completed)
Choose a product to help stop cyberbullying & bullying:
SCRAPBOOK-This will include summaries and responses to all of the fiction and non-fiction reading we have done on this topic, (including our work with Patricia Polacco's Bully, Thanks Mr. Falkner and even Almost Home), your cyberbullying non fiction reading packet and work we did on fairness, groups and power. You may also include video responses and anything else that you think would enhance your presentation. Include your journal entries here, too.
Create and illustrate a children’s book that teaches kids about the hazards of cyberbullying (but remember to have a “happy” ending where main character learns an important life lesson).
Create your own brochure-pamphlet where you discuss what cyberbullying is and offer tips for others about how to stop it. Make it personal and relevant to kids at PS 165. You may connect to readings that we have done in class (but make sure to make specific reference to them and explain their relevancy)
Got another idea? Ask your teacher!!!
WE WILL CREATE A RUBRIC TOGETHER IN CLASS THAT WILL BE POSTED.
RUBRIC SHOULD INCORPORATE THE FOLLOWING:
• Content: Connection to the world, myself, or another book, character-based idea, theme-based idea
• Elaboration: I supported my thinking about the story
• Presentation (including completeness)
• Organization: My writing is in order and stays on topic
• Language Usage: I used exciting words and added voice
• Mechanics: Capitals, Spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• WHAT ELSE: HAVE YOUR TEAM DECIDE-COMPLETE BY MONDAY AND WE WILL COMBINE THEN BUT YOU MAY BEGIN CONSTRUCTING YOUR PRODUCTS
