WANT A GLIMPSE OF WHAT LIFE MIGHT BE LIKE IN OUR FIFTH GRADE CLASS? PLEASE READ THIS NOTES FROM FORMER STUDENT, PHOEBE:

Dear Future Fifth Graders,

First and foremost, I want to congratulate you! My name is Phoebe Chan and I’m a 2015 graduate. You’ve made it to fifth grade and I bet it certainly hasn’t been easy. But, be warned! Just because you have entered fifth grade does most definitely not mean that you can slack off and think that school life for you has gotten easier. In fact, never think that anything gets any easier. Mrs. Clyne is a wonderful teacher, but she doesn’t make way for students to crawl through and gets "4's" like giving candy to a baby. Now, I know you may be stressed since last year was your first year of taking the statewide test, but not to worry. Mrs. Clyne will teach you everything you need to know! As an adult, Mrs. Clyne might scare you like all teachers do at some point! But don't worry--you will be just fine.

Something you should probably know about Mrs. Clyne is that she is the kind of teacher that gives several long-term assignments. But keep in mind, he more time she give you , the more you have to do. For instance, if you have an essay, Mrs. Clyne gives you several days to complete it rather than making it due the next day. This means that if you have procrastination problems, you need to fix them right away! Because she may sometimes give you multiple assignments,  there is no way you want to pile all those assignments on top of each other without properly apportioning your time. For instance, maybe on Tuesday, start working on that essay that is due on Friday. It may not seem as tempting as watching that new video that came out or chatting with your friends, but if you save your essay for the day before it is due--you will be sorry!

Another thing you have to watch yourself for while working with a wonderful teacher like Mrs. Clyne, is that when she gives you assignments, it's always better to try than to give up. You see Mrs. Clyne isn’t always expecting your writing or your work to be perfect but she knows effort when she sees it. You see, sometimes its better to fail trying than to never try at all. This is one of the many many important lessons that Mrs. Clyne will teach you. So if you turn up with nothing rather than at least your best effort, Mrs. Clyne will most definitely get frustrated especially if she knows what you are capable of.

Lastly, since I don’t want to spoil all the life lessons that Mrs. Clyne will give you, one of the most important lessons Mrs. Clyne gives you is that it's good to have the brains, but it's more important to be a genuinely good human being. For instance, if you are smart, but you have a rude mouth, don’t respect your peers or anyone else for that matter, you’re only going to get so far in life. Whereas if you are nice and  polite, you will be much more successful.  So, in general, Mrs. Clyne doesn’t just teach you the skills in math, reading and other subjects, she teaches you how to become a good and decent human being.

In Mrs. Clyne’s class, you learn the curriculum spectacularly, but you also go beyond that. For instance, Mrs. Clyne teaches you how to be kind and how to care from all the problems that are in the world right now such as deforestation problems in the rainforest and how palm oil production impacts the orangutans, the overpopulation of cats and dogs as well as problems facing the earth problems and much more. And don’t worry-- these tasks are never boring! You will work on computers all the time since you are now in the Computer Lab.

In conclusion, Mrs. Clyne is a wonderful teacher and although you may be nervous, don’t worry! Mrs. Clyne will definitely help you with your transition! I hope you have a great 5th grade year! There is nothing to worry about since you are with a great teacher and relax (although not too much-- remember to still do your best!) Enjoy the new year! Good Luck!
