Leading A Good Life
By: Samyuktha A.
“My life is my message.” You may have heard this famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi before, but what does it really mean? What people and things have influenced you to be who you are now? And what things can make your life meaningful and so-called “good”? By exploring the people and things that shaped your life and character to be who you are now, we can also look at things that can help us live a full and meaningful life.
Now, graduating from the 5th grade class of 2018, I can identify myself as a person who loves to learn and go to school. My teachers and my parents have made me who I am now, by building my love of learning and helping me become much more smarter than I used to be. My life can become my message by expressing it everywhere I go. They way that I carry myself and my actions can influence others in many ways, so if you live the way you believe others should live, then others will follow as well.
A way my life can become my message is that when I grow up, I can influence others on my views by writing. I want to become an author when I grow up, so I will give my message by the power of words. Using my words, I can encourage others to lead a “good life” and do the right things. I can connect this to a popular book, the autobiography “I Am Malala.” In it, Malala says that “one child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world.” This shows me that through the power of education and words, you can easily get your message through. And as I want writing books to be my life’s work, I know that I can spread my message I want to spread lifelong.
What is the meaning of living a “good” life? Does it mean eating healthy, sleeping and waking early, and being happy with what you do? Or is it just inner calmness that overpowers all? This has been debated many times, but I have my own opinion on how to live a good, successful, and meaningful life. I think that I can live a good and meaningful life by always looking on the bright side of life, no matter how dark things get. By spreading and sharing my knowledge with the world and always looking on the sunny side, I believe I can live a so-and-so “good life.” I can emphasize this on one of my favorite songs by Monty Python, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. In the song, the beginning lyrics are, “Some things in life are bad; They can really make you mad. Other things just make you swear and curse when you're chewing on life's gristle. Don't grumble, give a whistle and this'll help things turn out for the best. And… Always look on the bright side of life. Always look on the light side of life.” I think that this song really talks about how just staying positive can help you get through when things are tough.
In conclusion, I think that Mahatma Gandhi was right when he said “my life is my message.” When you share your knowledge and message with others, the whole world can become a better place. Staying positive also helps you lead a happy and successful life. To quote Malala Yousafzai again, “one child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world.”

“My Life is My Message”
By: Srinath N.
I am Srinath. Malala had once said “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” Mahatma Gandhi had once said “My Life is my Message” I know that my life is my message in the future, and peoples uniqueness and talents defines who they are and makes their message in life. because my actions, thoughts and feelings deliver my message. People like Malala and Gandhi had also delivered their message of equal rights for every human being. Gandhi stood up for the rights of Indians when they were under control of the British. Malala stood up for women's rights, especially for education. And my message is we should all care for each other, whether it be someone in your family or someone who you don’t know. And Malala had reiterated it by saying “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.”
The most important things to remember to follow in the years to come is to be kind and sensible about what you do with the power you hold. Since my life is my message, I control what I want to do to the world; good, or bad. Therefore in that case, on of the most important things I should remember to follow in the years to come is to be sensible with with I chose to do.
Important things that will lead happiness in my life are the people around me and who live by me. My family, teachers, friends and parents encourage me and lead me to a happy life because they are the ones who I can trust and are close to me and not only will these people just give me happiness, but my parents, teachers, friends and family will give me the courage to stand up to things and they create my life, my message which is that all should care for each other, whether it be someone in your family, or someone who you don’t know. I can relate my life message to a song called “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars who says “When we are called to help our friends in need, you can count on me like one two three, I'll be there, And I know when I need it I can count on you like four three two, You'll be there, 'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah”. What this means is that you should be kind and caring when someone is in need of your help and people will only do good to you in return. I can also relate this to I am Malala when she said “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” So I know my life is my message and the people around me define it. I am Srinath.

My Life and My Message
By Ethan G.
Some things that have made me what I am today are my supportive, caring parents, who always push me to do my best and are always there for me. My Amazing teachers Ms. Clyne and Mrs. Walter have both been very supportive and understanding throughout my years in PS.165 and have shaped me as a person. Ms. Clyne has made me into an environmental advocate and that will be a message I will want to include in my life. Mrs. Walter has made me a better and calmer person by being so understanding all the time and being a great friend. I just really love my teachers since they’ve helped me and changed me so much along my journey and I will always remember them in the years to come.
My love of videogames, love of science, and love of reading have also shaped me as a person, while many people view many video games as being overly violent (A claim I disagree with but i’d be able to write a whole book about that and that’s not the point of this essay). I really like video games and some of them can really make you think at times or maybe teach you something about the world. And different games of different types have shaped me as a person, mainly since my love of videogames is one of my primary character traits. Science pairs fairly easily with videogames and reading, and I got my love of science from my teachers and from books about different kinds of science that I have. And that’s another big character trait of mine.
A great book I like that has some science in it is A Wrinkle In Time, which talks about some strange but interesting science like the 5 dimensions, Mainly focusing on the 5th dimension, a “Tesseract”. The book also taught me about the power of love and how love always overcomes hate as well as how we should be proud of our faults and be proud of what makes us unique and all that good stuff. It taught me a lot of interesting things and moved me as a person. It was also somewhat relatable, since I have a lot of faults like my anxiety and my sensitivity and this book is all about being who you are. It also taught me about the 5th dimension, but since this is a essay about how my life is going to be my message along with other things and not a book report im going to carry on with my semi-philosophical essay.
Ghandi once summed up his philosophy by saying “My life is my message” what you do in your life is what message you want to spread. Gandhi's life was filled with fighting for peace using peace, he campaigned for peace nonstop throughout his life and so his life carried a message of peace. My life will become my message through the things I do in my life. I will of course remember my teachers while spreading my message as they have helped me shape my message so far. Part of my message will be how important it is to protect the environment and nature and animals that need protection and how we need to stop ourselves from destroying our own planet. I’m not quite sure what new parts will be added to my message later on, My message will grow as I go through middle school, high school, and college.
My life will become my message in the future in the way that the things I do in my life spread my message. I’m not quite sure what job I want to have when I grow up, I might be a scientist of some sort, or I might get a job that involves technology, or I might get a job that involves making parts of video games. I might also get into music too, since I like to hum my own songs and ‘compose’ ‘songs’ with my sister. I might invent a new eco-friendly power source or new eco-friendly biodegradable material or even a tasty but eco-friendly food ingredient to replace palm oil. All things I could do to help the environment and spread that message. I could make a video game or song about helping the environment or make things that help the environment. I can also of course volunteer to help the environment and support programs that help the environment and nature. All of these actions are things I can do to make my life my message.
Some important things to remember to follow in the years to come are to always recycle and to try and do things that are good for the environment. I also want to encourage my parents to buy NON-GMO, USDA Organic, and Rainforest Alliance certified foods. Another Important thing to always follow is the 3 B’s: Be Kind, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible, especially when no one else can see. I find being kind to be especially important.
I think that some of the most important things to do in my life that will lead to my happiness are spending time with my friends and family, reading books, succeeding at life, and playing video games. Yep, those are all things that make me happy. Being kind and helping the environment also make me happy as well as warm and fuzzy inside. And so that is what I think my message will most likely be: kindness and protecting the environment.

I am Malala
Erica C.
Malala once said, “My father always said, 'Malala will be free as a bird.'” I asked myself then, what is the meaning of life. Why do I live? I live to achieve a goal. But what is that goal? Why is it important? I then told myself to change the world. That is my goal. That is why I live, to change this world that we live in. To make sure that it survives. To make sure that the future generation has a hope to see the beauty of nature. That is why I live. That is why I will fly as a bird. A bird is free. Free yet still part of the life cycle, yet still part of the food chain. A bird is free, it goes everywhere and anywhere it wishes to go and still, while being free, that small little bird managed to change the world. That is why I live. To be free as a bird but still make a change like Malala did.
That, my friend, explains what I want to be. But me right now, pft. I’m the total opposite. I have a life that I don’t know how to live. When I was younger, I said, well I’ll just watch anime all my life. That's not the case now. I know how hard life is now from taking a look at my mom. Then I asked myself again, what do I want to be. I want to be free. I want to be adult who knows how to care for themself and get myself a life unlike now. But take a look at me now. I’m not a free bird. I’m stuck and can’t get out. I’m an introvert who doesn’t know what to do with their life and watches anime all day. I may be like this but this sums up who I am. There probably is also no one in the world better than hiding their feelings other than me. I am myself and I’m proud of that fact but I can’t live like this. Mahatma Gandhi once said “my life is my message.” I tell myself, I’ll live a life that no one has ever done. I have a dream. My dream, to be a bird, to soar freely in the air and helping the food chain grow in the shadow. I want to be that shadow that comes out when that a person is in light. I’ll gladly become a shadow that will help that person somewhere out in the world who has a fire. I will gladly spread it to the other candles.
Now, that is why my life has meaning. That is how I will live a meaningful life, but having a meaningful life doesn’t mean that you’ll be happy in the end. People with thinking that opposes you will make life hard for you. So how will I keep myself sane from the sadness and loneliness in a meaningful life. But first, what is a meaningful life? Each person has a different goal in a “meaningful life” such as the Taliban who just wanted something to play with. To me, in general, a meaningful life is a life in which you achieved your goal. Where you were able to reach your goal and could die peacefully. So my meaningful life is being a shadow. Some people will say how is that meaningful? Let me answer that. It’s meaningful because shadows are things essential in life. Without it you couldn’t continue to live. Wherever there is light there is dark. I want to be that dark. The dark that helps the light without people knowing it. I don’t want to become a celebrity by being the light. Most people don’t even notice the shadows of the people helping the light. I don’t want people to notice me. I want to be the wind that blows for a brief moment spreading the cool air to everyone. To me having a meaningful life is beautiful but the Taliban’s wasn’t such a good life. So instead of making them not reach their happy ending, why not change them before they took the corrupted root. I’ll be the little voice in their head trying to stop them.
So how can I be a happy person in the end. I could end life in a happy way by living my life and being free. I would rather die than not be free, after all, what’s the point of life if you’re not free to do whatever you please? How would you live a meaningful life if your not free. My mom says that she’s doing this to keep me safe. That she’s going to keep me locked up “safe” until I become a proper adult. But that’s not helping me, why? Well because I’m slowly rotting from the inside out each time she says that. I want to be an adult soon so I could be free though I could start picking the lock. In the end, I have a dream, to be a bird. A bird that soars freely and is prey to almost animal but yet has the ability to change the world.

Changing My Life
By: Jane L.
“You don’t have to change a thing, the world should change its heart”. “You have to adapt”. “Your life is your message”. These quotes may seem like they are saying the complete opposite, but when you fit them together the right way, they’ll become the way to make a change. That’s how all the peaceful protesters; Gandhi, Dr. King, and Malala Yousafzai, kept the world together and still managed to fix the things that were wrong. They didn’t use violence, but they did use words and peaceful actions to make a change. Change shouldn’t happen because of force and violence, but because of people caring about the issue and understanding why the change must be made. And that is the actual only way that change has been made throughout history, and will be made in the generations to come.
There are many things and people that make a person who they are. But people who make changes start out with the same lives as many other people around them. They just use it to make a difference by taking the problems around them and turning them into solutions. For example, Malala Yousafzai was a girl like any other, a girl in Pakistan who faced the fear of the Taliban, but she took the problem and made it into something that would help thousands of children who deserved education be able to enjoy it. Sure, her father did support her a lot, but the will to make a change was in Malala and that’s how she made it. I am one of the 4.34 million fifth graders in the U.S. There are probably lots more in the whole world. But that doesn’t matter, because I know I can make a change.
I always admired my teachers, and the patience that they had for children (most of the time). I saw the love that they provided for us and I always knew they were trying to help us, even if that meant screaming at us. I think that the person who helped me realize that I could make a difference, though, was Mrs. Clyne-Davis, my fourth and fifth grade teacher. At first, she made really long speeches to us and lectured us again and again about how we held the power to change the world. And to be honest, I didn’t really think that was possible at first. (Sorry, Mrs. Clyne). I kind of doubted that out of the millions and millions of children in the world, I had such a big power to speak out and change the world.
That changed in the middle of fifth grade. We were reading a book called “Night of the Spadefoot Toads”, which was about a boy who is trying to adapt to a new home after moving due to his parents’ work. He finds an endangered species of animals called Spadefoot Toads in the back of his science teachers’ backyard, but learns that her backyard is actually property of her sister-in-law, who is about to sell the land to a businessman, who will clear the ground for more housing. He knows what it feels like to be moved to a new home, and he knows that the Spadefoot Toads may not even be moved to a new home, and be killed, so he decides that it is time for him to now make a change. Even though he is only a child, he confers with the sister-in-law and asks animal organizations for help to make the sister-in-law understand why the Spadefoot Toads are so important. Finally, she decides to keep that little property of land where the Spadefoot Toads are, and only sell the rest of the land. I learned from this book that even a child can save a species that are endangered, and help animals in need of help.
Next, we read a book called, “Life”. It basically told us about how life is small, but then it grows. Life is something that can be good, or bad. Life is also something that comes with difficulties and responsibilities. But once you get over those difficulties, you realize that they have made you a better person, and just helped you grow. Life is small, but it grows over time, with the help of many courses that you overtake. Sure, you’ll grow physically, but you have to also grow mentally, and become grown up spiritually. Maybe you’re mind will mature earlier than your age. But the point is, that life leads to good when you learn to pass over difficulties.
Then I read the book, “I am Malala”, which really set me off into thinking that I could make a difference. Malala was about the same age as me when the Taliban came into Pakistan, banning girls’ education, which was all Malala had ever wanted. She wanted to be able to go to school, like any other boy, and decided that it wasn’t right to keep girls from the education that they deserved. So, she decided to campaign against the Taliban, and fight for peace and justice. To set an example, she campaigned peacefully as well, and didn’t use violence to get what she wanted. The most moving part for me was when there was a death threat against her, and she asked herself what she would do if a Talib came to kill her. She said at first, “Well, I would just take my shoe and hit him on the head, but then she said that that would be treating the Taliban with the same cruelty and inhumanity. Instead, she would tell the Talib what she wanted and even wish education for his family. Then she would say, “Now you can do what you want”.
This just shocked me, that a girl my age would give up her life for what she thought could make a difference and help thousands of kids who couldn’t go to school. Then I thought that maybe I can make a change too, and do it peacefully. Change doesn’t happen because of violence, but because of people who care and actually want it to happen. Malala said, “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” I thought that this related to the quote, “You don’t have to change a thing, the world should change its heart”, and “You have to adapt” as well as “Your life is your message”.
Malala thinks of the world as a family, so that means that you don’t have to change a thing, the family (world) should change its heart. Usually, a heart of a family is the reason that the family is family, and can love each other and not fall apart. Basically, its the most important part of the family. Only peace and love can keep a family together. When there is a violent person, and they try to rule over the family and make the rules of the family, usually the family will not last long. You have to adapt to the changes that other people are making in the world, but only if you yourself think that it is something you should adapt to. If you adapt too easily, then you may be adapting to something that is not good and leads to harm. Finally, when you speak out against the harm that is being done and people who are criticizing you for the way you think, then you will be living a life that is your message.
As I began to focus on my violin throughout 4th grade, I had a dream to become a violinist. But in fifth grade, my former violin teacher moved, which would have meant giving up everything for me, because that would mean I wouldn’t have a violin. I had borrowed one from her because my family couldn’t afford one. But she told us before she left that she was leaving me with her violin, so that I could borrow it, and use it until she returned the following summer to take it back. As you know, I didn’t have my own violin at that time, so the fact that she let me borrow it was just so … moving. That’s when I realized the love that she had provided for me was to be shared with others like me and decided that I wanted to be a violin teacher. The reason why I want to be a violin teacher is because I want to share the love I received with others.
I’ve learned that receiving love isn’t the only way to making a better love, you have to share it. Pass it on, and give it to people who haven’t felt it before. My teacher passed her love to me, and now I’ll pass it to many others in years to come. You need to make a change and become someone who speaks out against the tide by sharing love, having bravery, and knowing that just because you’re a kid doesn’t mean that you can’t make a change. That’s how you make change and live a successful life.

When Malala once said, “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” And when Gandhi once settled his philosophy stating, “My Life is my Message,” my life will be my message in the future, for anyone, by how they are unique among the many talented people in the world. In addition, other people like Gandhi or Malala made their life their message, by leaving a legacy. For Gandhi was chanting for peace among India, where Malala also, peacefully protesting was standing up for children’s right, for girls education in Pakistan. Therefore my life will be my message by helping people in need, whether it’d be one of my family members, or a person walking down a street. Which refers to, “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” I think that this means that as if one of us is down, we all go down to help the one in need, for if someone needs help we should comfort them to bring them back up.
The most important things yet to come in the following few years, where I should be mindful about. Is overall since, my life is my message in addition that the power is mines, I need to be mindful to stick up for what’s right, that I shouldn’t “abuse” the power, as for since I’m still growing up, the more power I have. Therefore, I should make it so that I was a good influence rather than a bad one.
Some important things in my life that’ll lead to a path of happiness is by the people supporting me, whether it’d be my family, teachers, or friends. I think that these are the most important people that’ll leave to happiness, since they are ultimately the ones who are closest to me, therefore, they bring up your spirit giving you the courage, to help you along the way of how to deal with a problem. I can relate this to the book of both The House on Mango Street and I am Malala. I know this because for example, in the text I am Malala, it shows how Malala, was facing a group called the Taliban where they were terrorizing the area where she lives, where they started to dictate to make rules one of their own such as girls can’t go to school. This shows me that since Malala thought this was wrong, that she started to peacefully protest, by speaking out what she believes in. later on, her father joined giving an exchange of courage to both of them, to give speeches of how they felt about women who had no education. Just like how in The house on Mango Street, in the section of “Papa wakes up in the Dark,” it shows how Esperanza was still supporting her father, comforting him so that he’ll feel better after his mother/Esperanza’s grandma had passed away. This shows me that Esperanza was supporting her father through hard times, when they come.
In conclusion, as everyone does continue on with their lives through the rough times, and the fun times. Every action does count, for it’s always treasured to make your life, your message.

Life could be meaningful and good to me is by being able to be the best I can, and using my skills to be helpful for others. I think this because meaning to life is when you are able to make a point out of what you’re doing and how it positively impacts the world when you make examples. According to Malala she says “and they cannot stop my campaign to see every boy and girl in school, millions of people prayed for me, and god spared me.” This brings me to the most important thing in my life, is the friends and support that made me who I am, I am strong because they encourage me to continue my interests and strengthen my beliefs, nobody can stop that.
For some people the purpose of life or a message or to make a difference is to help people get equal rights and make a better and more reasonable life for them, just like in I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai. Malala tries to fight for girls’ rights, she uses her understanding and knowledge to support others, she is basically helping others who need her hand. This makes a meaningful life when you support girls’ right for education and to make the world a better place with more people getting educated. Malala is just like a role model she uses her skills of power and encouragement for funds, charities and groups that will make more schools for girls in other parts of the world. Just like Pakistan, there are barely who can go to school and even show their face, Malala is standing up for others, this makes a very important life, as you do it for the sake of someone else.
There’s also book called Harriet Tubman by Catherine Clinton, Harriet also made her life really meaningful when she had the skills to help others, and courage to sacrifice for others and it affected many lives. In the book it says “Harriet returned to the Plantation and saved a brother, a sister…….” This shows how Harriet created a meaningful life for her by helping others, she made an important as she didn’t just think about herself, she used her life to contribute the many lives in slavery that needed her. Every human should be able to use their power for purpose and others, as they lived to do something for the society for the world. And from all the support you had, you should use the ways others helped you to use it on others. Harriet used her power and her best to help those sick and hurt ones in war. That’s how everyone is able to survive, this is what I think creates an important life with meaning that others can also see.
I think the important thing to know for the following years to come is that you shouldn’t be selfish and it’s always important to be my best using my skills to guide others and get them in the right path as well. Just like in my life at Sunday School, I am able to be role model and help the little kids get along with each other. I always think that being able to impact others’ lives with a good experience is making your life meaningful as well, as you learn from every action. I think what leads my life to happiness is seeing others happy as well, and learning to have courage to help others for a good purpose as well. For example helping others, back in summer camp I used to stand up for my friends who got bothered by the other fourth graders, they were able to get back up and they felt a lot better about themselves after. It makes me happy to see others affected, as I know I was able to make a difference in someone else’s life.
As a conclusion I think what makes my life meaningful and important is how being able to be the best I can, and using my skills to be helpful for others. I think this because meaning to life is when you are able to make a point out of what you’re doing and how it positively impacts the world when you make examples. Just like Malala and Harriet they made an important life for themselves by setting a good example for others and helping others get freedom and get a better life for themselves. This is when you are able to impact the world you have a purpose to be in this world by helping others. Sometimes friends and family could also help you as everyone is able to lend a hand and shine the light through the darkness existing in our world.

Do you know Malala and her reason she started campaigning? Although she was shot by the Taliban, she remained alive and continued her campaigning. She was even awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Having received the prize at the age of 17, she is the youngest Nobel laureate.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “My life is my message.” Malala has the same effect on her. Ever since she got shot by the Taliban, she was recognised for her campaigns and her fight for women’s rights and girls’ education. She says that she doesn’t want these prizes. All she wants is to help the people in need, such as children who don’t go to school and get education. So, she went to Jordan, Syria accompanied by her father and Shiza Shahid and gave out school supplies so they could go to school. Me and my class read her story.
Mahatma Gandhi also said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” While campaigning, Malala only used words and actions to support her idea of women’s rights and girls’ education. She used peaceful protest. The Taliban was creating fear amongst the whole of Pakistan and even in themselves. That is probably why they were “forced” to shoot her. The Taliban attempted to kill her, but she survived thanks to her supporters. Ever since she started campaigning, she has changed the world because of her voice. She wanted people to know why women’s rights and girls’ education is very important. Since then, she was the change she wished to see in the world.
As you can see, change can be hard, but very important. From that moment when Malala started working on her voice, she changed the world and made her life her message for the world.
I can relate myself to Malala because last and this year, we did our Starts With Hello program. Projecting your voice out is important, which is what me and my classmates did. We stood up because people get lonely when their friends may think that they’re too stupid to be a friend or the person doesn’t have any friends at all. We thought that it’s very important because if a person gets ignored too much, they could probably commit suicide. Loneliness can lead to much more than suicide.
Just like how Malala thought women’s rights and girls’ education is important for the world, we thought that loneliness is another big issues in this world and someone should do something about it.
We also read The Cay By Theodore Taylor, which is about a young American boy named Phillip who meets an African American named Timothy after getting abandoned on the sea. Soon enough, Timothy takes Phillip with him to different islands and teaches him survival skills because he knew he’d die someday. But, they will always keep in touch mentally.
I can relate this to my life because my teacher, Mrs. Clyne teaches us new skills and saves us when we’re confused. She knows that we’re going to leave her someday, but we’ll always keep in touch. She is a hero, just like how Timothy is a hero to Phillip because he taught him all the skills of survival and taught him how to live every second of his life. Mrs. Clyne also taught us how to live every second of our lives and how to survive.
As you can see, you can relate your life to books as long as you find certain details that are meaningful to you. You can even relate anyone who has details in their lives to you that are meaningful to you.

I am Malala Yousafzai
How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World
By Aaliyah I.
When it's school time, a lot of people aren’t happy when that happens. They tend to be lazy. But when school starts to end, summer vacation starts to sprout in school. Many people wish school never had become and it would end faster (I am not going to lie I have the same opinion………....). But, so many children across the world don’t have the proper education, and they have to work somewhere. Their childhood has been stolen from them. They work all day, have very little to eat. For example, children work in dumps, looking for cans and glasses that can be sold. Many kids are robbed of their education, and we have to be thankful we have it.
Malala Yousafzai is a children’s rights activist at the age of 21yrs old. She was a normal girl who stood up for education and she had become one of the most famous children's activists in the world. She inspired so many people to speak up for the things she loves, and she showed that even though the world may be your enemy, someone will be standing by your side. I love Malala. She is my favorite role model to look up to. I have always imagined what it would be like to go through all this suffering.
I am a normal kid. I eat ice cream, play Minecraft, I love dragons, watch How To Train your Dragon: Race to the Edge, and I sleep, eat, play, dance, sing, and roller-blade. I love to do all these things, but the thing that separates me from most people is my religion. I am a Muslim, and I follow the rules of Islam, like Malala. We both have the same birth-dates, July 12th, although Malala is older…………………………. Anyways, I am the same, I read the Holy Quran, go to the Musjid (mosque), and I celebrate Eid-Al-Adr and Eid-Al-Fitr. These holidays mark the end of Ramadan.
My life is completely perfect. I am allowed to have free speech, and being a 5th grader is a little stressful. I have known P.S.165q for such a long time, and although I haven’t had such a peachy year, all the people who are here are amazing! I will miss this school when I go to Bell Academy. The most important thing I will remember is the 3b’s, and I will remember the teachers that have helped me progress through the year. The things that make life good for me, is the awesome friends, teachers, and of course family that make life have a revealed meaning to me. I love this school, I definitely will miss it.
Many people are equal to each other. One person isn’t higher than the other, (well, maybe except the president) IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING! We still have equality towards one another. The poem, “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” tells about how everyone is equal. Life isn’t something that you can suddenly regain when you want. You have to grasp it, and explore its endless possibilities. The book “Life” by Cynthia Rylant shows that life has to start small and then it GROWS. It starts to grow till it can't grow anymore.
Life has been a beautiful meaning. Grasp the chance when you can. This won’t always be there for you. So :
Love education. Love Life.

A Essay On My Life and Me
Alycia H.
Lots of things can make life and good and meaningful for me. Like the happy things that I “endure” everyday in my life; the happy things I do; the things that help make me happy. Those are the things that will make life good and meaningful for me.
What makes who I am today are my experiences; the things I went through and my surroundings; the setting and people around me. These things make up me because they let me understand more, to know more, and to learn more. With that understanding, knowing, and learning, I was able to “create myself,” or make what “makes” up who I am today. In books, the character is often changed, or added on to by their experiences, their surroundings, and what they went through. A example of this would be in the book, “Red Queen.” Through her experiences, the main character, Mare, was changed through her experiences. In the “beginning” of her life, when she was just a regular common peasant in a country that didn’t care about her. Back then, she didn’t know how hard it was to play politics, or what playing politics could do to a person. After being involved in politics, she changed. Through that experience, she changed into a harsher, colder, person with a mask nobody could read through. Her surroundings changed her too, because after playing politics for long, she was accustomed to “cold” people and those surroundings started to add on to her and change her.
If Mare could change, so could other characters change because of what they went through. There was one character named Maven, who changed because of what his mother did to him. (That counts as “the things people go through.”) I know this because it says in the text, “In the palace, during my imprisonment, I learned that Maven had been made by his mother, formed into the monster he became.” That shows that people and characters can change because of their experiences.
My life will become my message in the future because of my actions. Through my actions, people will see my message. If I support something, I will act to support it. And seeing my actions, people will understand my message. With each action, each world, each move, people can see the message. Each act is a message, and life is made of acts, and so, my life is my message. And so--my acts--my life in my future--will be my message. An example of this would be in the book, “Mockingjay.” Mockingjay is a part of “The Hunger Games” series talking about the main character, Katniss as she battles the government in a dystopian world. She “spent” her actions by rebelling against the government, and through those actions, and the life she devoted to fighting the government, she was able to spread her message to rebel.
I think the most important things to remember to follow in the years to come are; be kind, help those in need, for the world is a “family.” “When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” After all, Malala thought this. She said, “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” And so being kind comes into the picture. When “one of us” is suffering, you/I should help them, and be kind. That is why being kind and helping those in need are some of the most important things to remember to follow in the years to come.
I think that another important thing to remember to follow in the years to come is to be happy. My definition of the meaning of life is happiness. So I think that a important thing to remember is to be happy, and live life the way you want to.
I think that some of the most important things that I will do in my life that will lead to my happiness are being optimistic, seeing the good in everything and using it to make me achieve happiness; do the things that I love, like, for example, reading books or playing cards. 😀 That will make life meaningful.
Like I said in the beginning, there are a lot of things that could allow people to achieve happiness, and things that people can do to help this world. There are a lot of thing to explain about life, and things to understand about life.

Scars To Your Beautiful
By: Jacky G.
I Am Jacky. In the song by Alessia Cara, “Scars To Your Beautiful”. It says, “But there's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark. You should know you're beautiful just the way you are.” My feelings are my own, and none shall change it. That is the motto I live by, and even though I might be forced to speak and act like other people’s feelings, I will always have the motto in my heart. I have been made to who I am by living by this motto, and I can already give a few examples. Even though I know that no other people are doing this topic, I still do it. Even though others can barely read this font, I like it. I shouldn’t change who I am just because others change. I have known other people that live by this motto as well. As the wise teacher says, “Be a leader, not a follower!” These mottos and quotes have made me who I am, but I can’t forget those who have nurtured me all along to become who I am.
The most important thing is my knowledge and smart ideas and thinking, because these things can help me pursue and become who I am. Dr. Seuss once exclaimed, “The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!” I would take my knowledge and hopefully live as a adult who seems have to accomplished all that he can. My thinking and my ideas can lead up to my happiness, by directing me in the right path. My thinking chooses which of all the choices I have, and which way I should go. Eventually, after I choose the right path to happiness, maybe I will live it. As my genius teacher once said, “You don’t just say it and lose it forever, you live it and take action.” (Maybe that isn’t what my brilliant teacher said, but it has the basic message.) I will need my knowledge and my thinking for the rest of my life, doing what seems right, and maybe regretting it or fill up joy once I think of the choosing, but these will lead to a happy and enjoyable moments of my life.
I have read several books that have inspired me over the years. Some as simple as “The Sneetches and Other Stories” to the great book written in nonfiction “I Am Malala, How One Girl Stood Up For Education and Changed the World” I was inspired by these very books, because they led me to thinking about how these creatures and people’s lives were, and how I should follow of what they do. When you read a book, it feels as if you are improving from the person that’s being narrated, because you know how everything is happening. Soon, you connect it to your own life and see how you can improve the quality of your life by following and improvising the steps of the character’s life. I must remember that life isn’t always easy, and my knowledge is my most powerful tool.
My life has reached one of the first checkpoints to being an adult. I am a fifth grader preparing to be a sixth grader. Even though my life will be hard. I shall persevere and never give up. Like all my fellow students are, I shall be a leader and never a follower. In life, there will be risks to take and choices to decide, there will be very hard times. My message to the world is that we should become who we want to be, even though we need to become who we need to be. I can tell you, that if you worked so hard every second of your life, that you should definitely become who you dream to be. When you become what you need to be, you are trapped there for the rest of your life. Better to fail to do something brilliant rather than doing nothing at all. In the last few days of my life in PS165Q, I will treasure these moments as I become the best I can.

“You don’t have to change a thing the world can change its heart.”- Scars to your beautiful by Alessia Cara. “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.”- Malala Yousafzai. “My life is my message.”- Mahatma Gandhi. These quotes are not just plain words people say/sing. They are remembered quotes because they are meaningful and important. The choices different people make are what make them who they are now, today. Your life will be your message. It all depends on how you choose to use your life wisely.
What makes ME who I am today is the people I have chosen to be friends and hangout with. My cousin, who I had chosen to be friends with at first when I was younger was not what I expected her to be. She would be untruthful and annoying at times. She is even disrespectful to her own mother at times just so she can gain what she wants. She taught an important life lesson that I will always remember. You have to be careful when choosing friends. Choose to be friends with people who you know are kind to their family members. I people aren’t even kind to their own family members, why would they be kind to you? Stop and think before you choose to be someone’s friend. My new friends taught me a life lesson, too. They taught me to understand that everyone makes mistakes and how no one is perfect and no one can be perfect. Also, they taught me that you can’t judge others by the mistakes that they make. Good friends can keep you out of any trouble. Good friends will also stand by your side at all times. In the Harry Potter series, Hermione and Ron were always by Harry’s side when he needed encouraging. In House On Mango Street, Rachel and Lucy were always by Esperanza’s side when she felt lonely.
MY life will become MY message because I aspire to achieve great goals. I aspire to achieve great things by myself, alone. I want to grow up to be a violinist. I might be able to find new ways to play music on the violin. Maybe even create a new music term. Find something new that nobody has ever discovered before in music. If I succeed in my ambitions, I can leave my legacy, my print in the world. In the book Flush by Carl Hiaasen, Paine Underwood left his legacy in the world by being brave and fighting against Dusty Muleman who was the owner of the Coral Queen which was the boat that was polluting the ocean waters by dumping waste and other garbage. And, his claim was actually proven right. Everyone leaves their legacy in some kind of way no matter GOOD or BAD.
In life, there are lots of important things to follow and to do in order to have a decent life. You should always remember that everyone makes mistakes. We’re humans! We’re not perfect. You also can’t judge others or get mad and upset just because they made a mistake. In addition, you also have to remember that you must stay calm. No matter how annoyed or stressed you are. If you want to have a well spent life, study hard and try to get ahead if it is possible. You don’t have to get into a great school to get a job and get rich but it’s always good to be ahead in your education path.
You need to make wise choices in your life and choose carefully what you do in your life. What really shows your character is the choices that you make not how perfect and great you are at things. Life is precious and you need to spend it carefully and wisely. This is because it may affect the rest of your life.

Malala 5th grade Exit Slip
By: Raphael Z.
Did you ever read the book “I am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai? Yep, an memoir. Anyways this book have inspired me to be a activist, maybe in the future, I (and some other) can be a force, fighting hunger and poverty all around the world. It makes me sad when I see someone sitting on the street, without any food or money. He or she didn’t have enough essentials to support his life, or to survive. I always make sure I put a least a dollar in. At first I was scared to become a activist that fight hunger and poverty, but then after I read I Am Malala, about a brave girl who fought for education to all human rights, when in a difficult time. The Taliban had violently controlled her country, and started attacking people for nothing. Her country were at war with the Talibans, and still even after she got shot for her beliefs and Western education, she fought for education. That brave story had inspired me to carry on with my beliefs and change the world’s heart. I’ll always remember the book “I am Malala” as well as time with my teachers. Also, my parents. Or, I can be a normal everyday citizen.
My life is my message, because I might as well leave a mark in this world, or at least in my schools. If I did something amazing that changed the world, that’s my message. When I do something, I spread it to the people around me. I can inspire the community. Even when I die and all of that, my message still lives. It’s a “forevermark”. My message can be anything. It can be something simple, or complex. Whatever it is my message still stays the same. My things to do in life that’ll make me happy, is to see poor people finally getting a chance to have a better life and eat! It also will be happy to see these people getting their hands on some money at last. That’ll be splendid. A way to finally see these results is to start a charity or fund. I can also give money to the homeless people, so they can at least have some food and supplies. I also would like to see people being happy, for what they had work so hard to get, and got. Also, I want to convince the government to pitch in and help donate and support these people. I mean, people cares about this issue right?
Another book that inspired me greatly was the “Night of the Spadefoot Toad.” It was all about a normal boy from Arizona, and had moved to Massachusetts. He had heard that the forest near his house was getting destroyed, and a endangered species, of Spadefoot Toads were losing their habitats. Even after it seems like all hope was lost, Ben (the boy) won the argument and debate. It was a brave story, for Ben was against all these powerful people who were changing the enviorment of one teeny, but beautiful patch of land, in a bad way. It was Ben who convinced the science teacher’s sister in law, or brother’s wife to stop all of this, and remember all the memories with the forests, of Thomas. Also, he insisted that the Science teacher shouldn’t give up, even when hope was lost. This book tells me that you should be brave and stand up for your rights, even if hope is lost. This is very important to me because if I were to change something for the world, in a good way, I stick to it, and never give up, even when everybody all gave up, and hope is lost. I will never give up. Another book that inspired me is The House on Mango Street. Inside this book, Esperanza, a girl who live in poverty, were struggling in the difficulty in life. She makes ME feel what’s it’s like to be poor, and having not enough to eat. This can give me empathy and gives me a sense what’s it’s like to be in poverty. She also wants to change her neighborhood into something better. She wanted to change poverty, beat it up, and wrestle it until it wants no more. She also longed for education, because she knew that her family can’t just live on lottery tickets. She actually wants to do something. Something that’ll make her life better. She wants to be intelligent, and get her life out of this mess. When she left, she’ll come back, to change this neighborhood. The third and most important book that inspired me, is “I am Malala” by Malala. Herself. The theme of this essay really inspired me because she was so brave for such a small topic, which may be big to her. Even after she have to live in fear, and got many threatening messages, she still continued to go on with her campaign. Even after she got shot, she still campaigned. Even after she got all that publictly about the shooting, you know it. She never gave up neither. She also have to fight the Taliban, a really big group that terrorizes people, with peace and words. Soon, people listened to her, because she don't use violence. She don’t use guns. She don’t use violence. She used peace.
This had changed me to become a more courageous and more empathetic person. Since I now know what certain issues feel like, I’m now more empathetic towards certain issues. Also, since I read some really brave dares to change the world, I know that I can also. With those two combined, I can take on the world.

How I’ll Change the World
Sydney W.
Mahatma Gandhi summed up his philosophy by saying “My Life is my Message”. Different things make different people who they are today. Life will become your message, depending on how you choose to use your life. You should start by remembering what to remember to follow in the years later in your life. These things are very important.
What makes me who I am now is probably the people I choose to hang out with. My first best friend was a very mean person, who’d abuse friends. She taught me a very valuable lesson: Be careful when you choose your friends. She also taught me to never use people for your own gain. My new friends taught me to be patient, and to understand that everyone makes mistakes, and that nobody’s perfect, and that you can’t judge someone by their mistakes, careless or not. They also taught me to keep my head in place in a bad situation. In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, Hermione convinced Harry to not exact revenge on Snape for killing Dumbledore. Good friends can keep you out of trouble. Good friends can also stand by my side. In “House On Mango Street”, Rachel and Lucy were by Esperanza’s side every time, and they were friends with an at-first lonely Esperanza.
My life will become my message because I aspire to achieve extraordinary things, and since I aspire now, I’ll achieve it on my own. I want to grow up to be a doctor, and maybe I can create a life-changing vaccine to a infamous disease that killed millions of people, or experiment with chemicals and come up with a cure to the deadliest disease known to mankind. If I can do this, I can leave a good legacy or message. In “Flush”, Paine Underwood left his message by fighting against Dusty Muleman, owner of the Coral Queen, the boat that’s polluting the ocean by dumping in waste, and he was proven right. Everyone leaves their message in some kind of way, good or bad.
In life, there are many important things to follow and to do in order to have a decent life. You should always remember that people make mistakes, and you can’t judge them or get upset at them for that. You also have to remember that you need to stay as calm as possible, even if people are really annoying, or you are extremely stressed. Don’t forget that if you want to have a good life, always study hard, and if possible try to get ahead. You don’t have to go to an Ivy League school to be able to have a good job and get enough money, but always get the chance to get ahead in your education.
In “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, Albus Dumbledore said “It is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities”. You need to choose how to spend your life wisely, and choose what you do wisely in life, because it may affect the rest of your life.

How My Life Will Become My Message
Giancarlo #11
Mahatma Gandhi said that his life was his message. I agree with this idea too. I think that what he is trying to say that what he does tells people what he believes in. I think this too. This has also happened in books, even fiction books. For example, Hoot by Carl Hiassen showed this idea, too. Roy Eberhardt (main character and is a kid in middle school) cared for the baby owls that lived in the construction site of the new pancake house. But what he believed in allowed him to gain supporters and everyone knew what he stood up for, basically his message.
Of course, there are real life people that shares this idea too, for example Malala Yousafzai. In her book, “I am Malala,” she talks about life and what she has done to change the world by herself. In her book, she is trying to tell us what she believes in. And after reading the book, I understand how she really believes that education should be accessible to all children around the world.
Now, I want to talk about my message. I believe that you should have fun in your life while you still can. You only have one life. And when it’s over, it’s over. So always look at the positive side of things. Be positive, and don’t make your life boring. Make the right choices, and if you’re not sure what to do, follow what your heart tells you.
I also want to support my idea too with a book named “Night Of the Spadefoot Toads” by Bill Harley. In this story, the main character, Ben, had one situation whether he wanted to spend his weekend with his teacher to help out the frogs that lived in her backyard. Ben was unsure, so I’m pretty sure he chose the choice his heart told him. Even though he thought his choice was bad, he still chose to spend his weekend with his teacher. He did this because he cared about nature so much. He also had a lot of fun, and he was positive about it.
In conclusion, that is my life message. That is the message I’ll pass on to other people. That is the message that I’ll leave in this world when I do finally leave. I think people already know about this and understand this idea, however, to the people that don’t, then I guess you learned something new today. I also look up to some people, for example Mahatma Gandhi because what he said was really powerful. I do also look up to Malala Yousafzai, because even though she is changing the world, she hasn’t changed herself. And I think what she is doing is really good for the world. I truly think these people will make the world a better place.

I Am Malala Final Essay
By: Winson C.
One thing I think we should keep in mind is to not let other people change you. You shouldn’t change the way you think because other people say it is wrong. This is important because if you believe in one religion and your friend believes in another, you shouldn’t change your religion because your friend thinks differently. I can relate this to the House On Mango Street, because Esperanza thought that if everyone thought differently about something, then she should also follow that opinion. She really cared about how others felt about her, not how she really about herself.
I think if everyone was nice to each other the world would be a better place, for example if people were a certain race or if, in Malala, a certain gender. I think what would bring the world happiness is if everyone accepted each other regardless their race or gender. That's the whole reason why Malala even tried to campaign, it was because girls didn’t have equal rights as boys did. What makes life meaningful is the moments, experiences, and to have fun, but if some people don’t get to experience this. For example in the text I Am Malala, some kids, instead of going to school, they had to spend the whole day looking for stuff in the trash, just so their family can live, and this is not fair.
The lyrics, “You don’t have to change a thing. The world could change its heart.” describes how you don’t have to change, but the people around you could think differently. This is an important message because you shouldn’t let other people change you. Mahatma Gandhi said, My Life Is My Message. My life is my message because it shows who I am or who I was, and hey, maybe someone could learn a thing or two from me.
This relates to me because if everyone wasn’t accepted in the world, some people wouldn’t have any friends and be isolated, just because of their race or gender. If this happened to me I wouldn’t feel very good and I would think nothing was fair in life. Just because someone is a girl with a whole class of boys, she would feel isolated and wouldn’t be accepted.
In conclusion, I don’t think we should change who we are because of the people around you think differently. You should just be yourself, and treat everyone with respect, like how you want them to treat you.

I Am Malala: What is the Purpose of Life?-MEGAN L.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “My Life is my Message”. Gandhi dedicated his life to starting the Indian Independence Movement. His message was remembered throughout the years as one of the most important, because he began the story of peaceful protest. How will your life be your message?
I am Megan Lee. I am mostly introverted, but I love to talk to my friends, but not so much making them. I was moved by how easily Malala gave speeches to crowds, and even made a lot of friends. This inspired me to think, “I love my friends and family, and I do have a goal of expanding my social life, so I must be more confident as a person and individual.” She also inspired me to become a writer when I grow to a mature adult. Writers can write books that change other people’s perspectives. If there is something to come to this world, it is surely a war. If only we could have that genie lamp in Aladdin, we could change who we are and what happens. In the novel, “I Am Malala”, it states on page 188, “Millions of people prayed for me, and God spared me. I am still here for a reason, and it is to use my life to help people.” The most important things to remember in life is that you are your own voice to be remembered. If I will live a good life, I want to help people and convince people to become more compassionate beings.
I am Megan Lee, and because I’m introverted, I don’t adventure outside of my shell too much. I usually like to read, practice a piece on my piano, or draw. A book called “The Adventures of a Little Rag Doll” was given to me by my eldest cousin. The rag doll’s name was Little Butou, and he was on an adventure to explore new things and connect with new people, and mostly reuniting with his owner, Ping. He was introverted too. Before his adventure, he was shy and lonely. But then, he found many friends along the way. The blurb says it all: “He then made his mind to be brave. Join this brave little doll as he travels by road, rail and air having adventures and making new friends along the way…” This shows me that you can become braver and more self-esteemed to enjoy life to the fullest. And that’s another way to enjoy life, is to explore and adventure. You can’t see all the waterfalls, or high mountains, or moist rainforests in your life, so you might as well see the ones that you care for the most and be brave.
To conclude, what do you think makes your life enjoyable to the max? I think it is just finding new things in life and spending time with your family and friends, and most importantly, the job that you dream about most in life. What do you love to do most? If you think of a job like that, you’ll never have to even work a day in your eternity.

The Purpose of Life
By Joanna W.
“You don’t have to change a thing. The world could change its heart.” “I think of the world as a family. When one of us is suffering, we must all pitch in and help.” “My life is my message’’ - Mahatma Gandhi. The purpose of life cannot be defined in a manner that most people would agree accordingly. Every individual has a different outlook on the purpose of life. This is why there are not any widely accepted theories or answers to this question, if you don't include religious influences. There are many different purposes of life, depending on what religion you confer with. If you were to take all religious aspects out of this question in particular. Life is all about success, love, and happiness. Life is meaningful to me by having passion towards a dream or sucess and keep a strong and a connection with my family and friends always. What does life mean to you? Or what is your purpose of life?
For some people, the purpose of their life is a message or to make a difference or peace. For an example, Malala Yousafzai is a person who cares about other people rather than herself. She stood up, or put her stone in the water. Had the courage to spread the message about this terrorism, Taliban by a blog. She wanted to inspire people to stand up to the Taliban and inspire some to help. And that made her life meaningful by supporting and doing what she can to help those kids, girls who didn’t get the education they needed. Her message was that “education made women powerful” or “fight with words not fists”, since she dedicated her life to risk own life to donate and help every girl to get education. In the book “I Am Malala” By Malala Yousafzai, it says on pg. 192-193, “But I know that with the immeasurable height, God has also given me a responsibility and a gift: the responsibility to make the world a more peaceful place.” This shows me how she knew that it was her responsibility and her life’s purpose to make peace and support kids’ education. And that she couldn’t send it on someone else to make that change.
As Malala Yousafzai, one other person also dedicated her life to peace. Everyone knows about the famous Martin Luther King speech, and the Rosa Parks bus boycott, but, more people was involved in the Civil Rights Act and here is one, Ruby Bridges. Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954. The name might sound familiar, because she was actually a well known woman or girl in that case, in the Civil Rights Movement. She was a Civil Rights Activist. She was one of the few black little girls to attend white schools. At first, Ruby didn’t mind that others thought she didn’t need to be in the school, but then, she started wondering why. She became the first black child to enter the Southern Elementary School, and desegregated the school. She showed that she was determined had courage to go to a only white school. By this action and courage, Ruby made a difference that it doesn’t matter that our skin colors are different, we are still all people. According to “Through My Eyes” By Ruby Bridges on pg 127, it states “The day I stepped into the Southern Elementary School, I knew god given me a purpose. My life’s purpose was peace, a difference.” This shows me how Ruby Bridges knew that she one of those people like Martin Luther King that changed history and made peace in the world. Similar to Malala, they made an impact and that was their message about peace.
How can the author connect to Malala or Ruby Bridges, or what is the author’s purpose of life in their opinion? My purpose in life is to live up to your dream or passion and even when you succeed. There will be a family and friends to support me and that you need to keep in touch because they helped me all the way, I know that. My passion is to succeed and meet my goals, no matter how hard I try I know I can do it. I can’t let my laziness hold me back on my dreams. What should the author remember on her/his journey on life? I will always know that my peers, family, and even my mate one day with always be with me, I that they will support me no matter what. Things that lead to my happiness is having supporting being there for you, my happiness is love and passion. That is my happiness of life and purpose.
In conclusion, that was my purpose of life and what was Malala Yousafzai's and Ruby Bridges’s life purpose. Just because you don’t know the question that the only person knows is god/yourself, you don’t have to bother yourself about it because it’s just the simple answer in your opinion. In life, you chose your own purpose. My purpose is to having passion towards a dream or sucess and keep a strong and healthy relation with my family and friends. That is my purpose of life, what is yours?

I Am Malala Final Essay
By Grace J.
“WAKE UP! You are going to be late for SCHOOL!” That’s the sound of your mom yelling at you to wake up for school. Ugh. School. Why can’t we stay in bed all day? Many people can’t stand going to school, because you do work, work, work. Of course that’s not me, (even though I’m lazy to wake up) BUT, some kids around the school are suffering because they can’t go to school. Their childhood is robbed forever, as they continue to work in dumps to get money for their family. A normal girl named Malala changed the world, and stood up for what was right. We are all different, that that is what makes us, us.
Today, I am just a normal kid that loves doing what any other normal girls like to do. I love to eat pizza, play games, watch T.V, read a book, eat ice-cream, fight with my sister, talk with my friends... Everyone is different. We have different things that make us ourselves. One thing that makes me myself, is my friends, and family. They are not exactly a thing, but my family and friends supports me the all the time (well, mostly), and helps me into the right path. It kind of relates to Malala, because her parents, and friends supported Malala’s campaign for girls’ education.
One reason Malala and I are same, is that we both have “annoying siblings.” Her younger brothers, Khushal and Atal makes Malala feel like she is still leads a normal usual day (by annoying her), like my younger sister Sarah. Another thing that makes me, me is education. Without education, I would be so stupid people would compare me to a chair. Education is important. Even if people are too lazy to go to school (ahem… me), everyone should have education in their daily life.
My life is everything. I should try to accomplish all I want to do in my life. I think that my life will make a message in my future, because then everyone would know what happened to me. The most important thing to remember in your life, is that you should never give up what you are trying to accomplish, because if you give up in what you think is right, then no one will listen to. For example, Malala never give up in woman’s right or education, even though she got harmed by the Taliban. That is the reason why everyone started to listen to Malala and her silent protest. If you do this in the future, then a lot of people will pay attention to you. If Malala didn’t do this, then people would not have known about the Taliban.
The most important things in my life that leads to happiness, is, CHILDHOOD! Without my childhood, I wouldn’t have met my friends, went to school, and… yeah. Without my childhood, I wouldn’t be anything when I grow up. Everyone wants to be something when they grow up, err… right? Yeah. Childhood is the most important part of your life. Malala had childhood, unlike some kids that were too poor to get one. I feel bad for them. So, the most, and only important thing in my life that leads to happiness, is my childhood, because childhood starts growth to your dreams, and other important things you want to accomplish.
One quote I can relate to, is by George Sand, who was a novelist. He said, “There is only one happiness in this life, to love, and to be loved.” I don’t think many people know this quote, but to me, it means so much, because it talks about how being loved, and loving is the only happiness in life. I can relate to Malala, because she was brave and made sure that everyone got the kindness they needed. Everyone (mostly everyone) started to love Malala (not personally), because she stood up for girls’ education, and she loved them back.
One text I can relate to is The Night Of the Spadefoot Toads, by Bill Harley, because of the fact that even though Ben knew that there was no hope for saving the spadefoot toads, he still didn’t give up, trying to save them. Even Mrs. TIbbets didn’t think it was going to work. However, Ben still disagreed about Mrs. Tibbet’s opinion, and he actually did it. I can compare Ben to Malala, because she didn’t give up on girls’ right for education, and she did it.
We should not be judged about how we look like, how we talk like, and how we act like. It doesn’t matter about how others think about you. The only thing that matters is what YOU think about yourself. That is the only thing that matters. For example, if your friend tells you that you look ugly, then you shouldn’t take it so seriously. You should think about how you feel about you. Like Malala, you shouldn’t think about how they feel about Malala. When the Taliban told Malala that what she was doing was wrong, Malala didn’t care and kept going with what she thought was right.
In conclusion, life is important, and you should spend it wisely. I MEAN, WISELY. Your life matters on the choices you make. MAKE IT WISE. Malala did. She didn’t care about how others thought about her, she still did what she thought was right. Everyone should do that. Education is IMPORTANT, everyone. And you should know that, too.

Changing the World
By: Bryan W.
“You don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart”- Alessia Cara. This quote relates to a girl named Malala and her book “ I Am Malala”. In this book she was talking about how her life was with the Taliban. She had many hardships but she fought for her freedom.
Malala was a very important person. The youngest Nobel peace prize winner. She fought with peaceful protest for her rights. We can also do something to change the world. The thing that makes me special is normally my appearance. Almost no one looks like me. (Unless I have a long lost twin I don’t remember or I have a clone). The people I am around also makes me who I am. Another way I am who I am is my friends. They are the people I hang around. They can change me very easily because they change me by staying with them. My friends are funny so I have become very funny. No one has friends like me. My friends are the best friends you can have.
Mahatma Gandhi once said “ Your life is your message.” I think this is very important because everyone needs to leave a legacy behind. Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. left back a message telling us to fight for our rights with non-violence. The legacy I want to leave is to have fun while you do your things. Life doesn’t always have to be boring. I also want to leave back a legacy of being kind to people. For example in Hoot by: Carl Hiaasen, it says “He was determined to persuade Mullet Fingers that he was someone to be trusted, that he hadn’t come to interfere but rather to help, if Mullet Fingers needed it.” Roy, the character main character from Hoot, always looked up to help. He helped the owls and Mullet Fingers.
In Night of the Spadefoot Toads, it said” But it is! We know it is! We have to try!” Ben loved these toads and he had to save them no matter what would happen to him. He left behind a legacy because they made a place to save the toads. Everyone will know about it. Malala already has a legacy and she was very young. I can also do it. First I have to start of small and leave a legacy hear at P.S. 165Q. I hope you remember me.

Essay
By Vince Z.
Something that makes me what I am is how I like to make up stories in first person point of view but don’t like to share them with others because I am a very private person and likes to keep things to myself. I also like to play games because that is my life source, (just kidding, kind of). My life is my message because I use it to show how technology is good for you if you listen to what I have to say. One of the most important things to remember in your life is that you should never be mean and always be kind. A important thing of my life that will lead me to happiness is my parents who are always there for me.
Making up stories on computer is a hobby of mine because it stretches your imagination and there is no rules. You are free to write any stories and create your own world with no one there to stop it. You can fulfill your dreams on paper and make stories of your own for example what if you have dreamed of being a knight then maybe you can make a story of a knight on a dangerous and amazing quest. Video games, Iphones, Ipads, etc can Be used as an effective and great pastime. It is also a great way to be entertained.
One of the most important things to remember in life is too always be kind not mean be a friend not a bully. Bullying is not cool either. It is very disrespectful and rude. It is better to be kind because people like it and you will make more friends if you are kind because people like kind people and a kind person is someone a person wants to befriends with because if a kid person then you now to expect good things from them but if your friends with a mean person than all you can expect is them being mean. The key thing to me being happy is my parents. They are always there if I need them. They always make me happy.
What will make life good and meaningful to me is if I have a good job, have lots of money and have a good house and lots of games so I can be sure that I'm not poor and will be entertained if I get bored. I could have a good view of the city from my house I can go and travel to many places and see amazing creatures and food. One text that helped me grow my perspectives is a poem called “Kindness” by Peter Burn. Another one is a poem called “Be Kind To Each Other” by Charles Swain.
This is how making up my stories and playing video games what makes me what I am. My life is my message because I try to convince people that technology is the best course of life because that is what we mostly rely on. This is how being kind is an important thing to remember in life. This is how an important thing in my lifetime are my parents. These are the two texts that helped grow my perspective.

Malala’s message
Gal E.
In I am Malala, Malala is one who stands up to what she believes in, she doesn’t let others stop her. She even puts herself at risk for her cause. Even getting shot wouldn’t stop her. She will not change who she is, her beliefs, or anything that she thinks just because people say, she will remain who she is. This also relates to other stories. For example, this relates to “The Night of the Spadefoot Toads" and “The House on Mango Street."
First, “I am Malala” relates to “Night of the Spadefoot Toads” because both of the main characters are different from the others, they stand out. For example, in “Night of the Spadefoot Toads,” Ben is not afraid to show who he is. Everyone knows that he likes to be in the forest and in the wilderness and be with the animals. This relates to “I am Malala because everybody knows that Malala is brave and she is not afraid to show it, even if others don’t like it
Also, “I am Malala” is also related to “The House on Mango Street” because In “The House on Mango Street,” Esperanza feels that change is needed, even if no one else agrees with her, she knows what the future should be, so she pursues her dreams so that she can finally reach her primary goal. To be where she belongs. I can relate this to “I am Malala” because Malala sees what she has to change in the world, and she doesn’t let anyone stop her from standing up and she doesn’t fall to anyone who tries to stop her.
I can connect this to my life because in my life, especially in this class, we look for problems in the world and look for ways to fix them. For example, we did the Starts with Hello program to help people who were lonely could have friends and not commit suicide. My class and I also helped the world.
In conclusion, Malala is brave and doesn't give up on what she believes in. She fights with her words, because she knows that change is needed where she is. So, she doesn’t let someone else do the work. She makes everyone else follow her. But, she knows that all she needs to succeed is to be herself.

The most important thing in my life is my family. They were always there for me as long as I could remember. Tey supported when I went to the g&t program-whenever I was sad or I felt down. I felt like I could reach for the stars, and I feel the most important thing to do in my life is to return everything that they've given to me and I want to succeed to make family proud and to make myself proud.

Mahatma Gandhi is a person who made a philosophy about life. One of his quotes is “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”That is one of the quotes of the famous Mahatma Gandhi. Some things that make me “me” are my glasses because they help me see everything clearly everyday. Also another thing that makes me “me” is my devices because they make me the person I am.Also my life will be a message for me in the future because it will show how much I changed and grew from where I am now.
I have remembered a lot of things in my elementary life.I think the most important things to remember when I grow up is how much fun I have had with my friends and family and all the parties I had in elementary school. Those are all my fun times in P.S. 165.I think the things I should do to lead me to happiness is spending time outside and spending more time with my family.
A lot of books and poems talk about the meaning of life. One of those books are I Am Malala, I Am Malala is a book about how one person can change the world.Malala always stood up for other people and when she was campaigning she did it for the people in Swat and all of Pakistan. Also in The Junction of Sunshine and Lucky it shows how everything can become something beautiful. For example how a broken toaster can become a flower and church windows can become a rainbow pathway. It shows how one girls trash can be another girl's treasure. These books and quotes show the meaning of life and to always be kind and never be selfish and be selfless.
